Obituary of Joy McGuire Miller

Joy McGuire Miller went to be with the Lord on January 21, 2014, in Tucson, Arizona, with her children by her side. Born March 20, 1935, in Hobart, OK, Joy was a graduate of Hobart High School, Oklahoma State University (ZTA Sorority), and the University of Arizona, where she received her Master's in Home Economics. After graduation she began teaching fifth grade at Whitmore Elementary in Tucson, Arizona. She was married in 1962 and stopped teaching to raise her family. She suffered from multiple sclerosis for over 30 years and ultimately succumbed to pancreatic cancer. Despite her illnesses she never let them define her. She dealt with adversity through laughter and kindness, always focusing on others. The people in her life were blessed to know her and will greatly miss her. Joy was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Miller; parents, George and Helen (Krieger) McGuire; brother, Larry McGuire; and grandparents, John J. (Pearl) (Eveliena) Krieger and William H. (Emily) McGuire. She is survived by her son, Matthew (Alexandra) Miller; daughter, Mindy (Carlton) Miller; and one grandson, Brendan McGuire Miller, all of Tucson. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Helen McGuire Snow of Tennessee; nephew, Shawn McGuire; niece, Kelly McGuire Wood; her aunt, Marjorye (Krieger) Rogers Cowden of Escondido, CA; and numerous cousins. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, February 8, 2014, at Casas Adobes Congregational Church, 6801 N. Oracle Road, Tucson, AZ 85704.
