Obituary of Margaret Rice Rosenblum
Mrs. Margaret (Peggy) Rice Rosenblum died peacefully January 10, 2014, just short of her 84th birthday in her home surrounded by her three children. A widow at age 32 years of age of the late Dr. Jerold M. Rosenblum, M.D., who preceded her in death in September 1962. She was the precious daughter of Adelaide Ballinger Rice and Samuel T. Rice of Cincinnati, Ohio. A loving mother of Susan R Winski (Ron), Lynn Rosenblum, Bruce Rosenblum (Lois). Loving grandmother of Jessica Carvajal (Taylor), Lisa Houser (Bill), Jordan and Abby Rosenblum. Loving great-grandmother of Lea and Jocelyn Carvajal, Grace and Aidan Houser. She will be greatly missed by both her family and friends. Peggy had a wonderful sense of humor and a sharp mind; she was a world traveler, lover of animals, and an avid bridge player of the Las Candelas Bridge Club. For over 30 years, Peggy successfully worked the New York Times crossword puzzles. A longtime fan and attender of the University of Arizona Basketball games, and member of the following clubs: The President's Club of the University of Arizona, the Safari Club, Oakwood Country Club, and the Cleveland City Club, Skyline Country Club, and Old Pueblo Club in Tucson. She was a board member of the Opera and Symphony in Tucson. She was nicknamed the energizer bunny because of her endless energy for life, and her desire to keep going despite, as she said, "bumps in the road." Up until her death, she played bridge several times a week with dear friends at the Bridge Club. Her world travels took her to all seven continents. Peggy had an unquenchable curiosity and sense of adventure. Peggy traveled to Africa six times. While in Egypt she enjoyed seeing the pyramids, sphinx, and riding on a camel. Other places that she visited while on this continent included the Tree Tops, Mombasa, Seychelles, Zanzibar, Madagascar, Tanzania, East and South Africa. She traveled to Antarctica, Iceland, and Greenland. She took animal tours that included photographing the Komodo dragons while in Indonesia, traveling to the Arctic Circle to see the Polar bears, and to the Sea of Cortez to see whales. She enjoyed her travels to the European continent to see England, Ireland, Portugal, Spain, Monte Carlo, Italy, Switzerland, and the Baltic countries of Latvia, Estonia, and Lithuania. The Scandinavian countries of Norway, Sweden, Denmark, and Finland, and Eastern Europe: Yugoslavia, Bulgaria, Romania, Bosnia, and Hungary and Poland. Her Asian travels included: Tibet, Nepal (where she rode on an elephant), India, Russia, Siberia and Riga, and Mongolia, where she slept in a yurt, Japan, Hong Kong, Viet Nam, Thailand, China, Taiwan, Singapore, the Philippines, Borneo, and Indonesia. Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Timor, Java, Sumatra, Papua New Guinea, Tahiti, Bora Bora. She traveled with her husband to Havana, Cuba, during the Batista era. She also traveled to many of the Caribbean islands, Puerto Rico, Panama, and Acapulco. Her travels led her to the continent of South America and to the specific countries of: Argentina, Brazil, the Amazon River, Peru, Chile, and Ecuador. Peggy traveled to Alaska, and throughout Canada, including Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, British Columbia, Jasper, Manitoba, Ottawa, and the Yukon Territories. She went on several Opera tours that took her to New York, London, Vienna, Milan, and Munich. In addition, she loved her sports, and was fortunate to attend several worldwide sporting events. She attended Wimbledon Tennis, the U. S. Open Tennis, the Olympics in Atlanta, the NCAA Final Four when Arizona won the championship in 1997. In addition, our mom attended several football bowls, including the Super Bowl XXV, the Orange Bowl, the Rose Bowl, and the Fiesta Bowl. She traveled on the Concorde jet six times. Her sense of adventure led her to take a 10-day raft trip down the Colorado River. She was a lifelong fan of the Cleveland Browns, and Cleveland Indians. As she said: "I had a good life." Peggy would like to personally thank the great care that she received from the nurses and aides at the University of Arizona Medical Center, the Casa De La Luz Hospice nurses, including Pam Aronson, her physician, Dr. Lorraine Mackstaller, and to Linda O'Malley, who was with her to the end. In memory of Peggy, donations can be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Arrangements by ADAIR FUNERAL HOME, Dodge Chapel.
