Obituary of Norman George Wainio
Norman George Wainio, age 69, died November 13, 2013, in Tucson. Norman was born in Delavan, WI, lived in Duluth, MN,hrough his high school years, and then lived several years in Minneapolis, MN, during which time he received a commendation from the Minneapolis Police Department for his role in saving a person from committing suicide. In 1995, he moved west, first to Canon City, CO, and most recently to Tucson, AZ. Despite having to struggle against many heavy burdens that life thrust, Norman continued to the end with exuberance, always giving a helping hand to whomever he could. Norm was a devoted and caring son to his parents, George and Helmi Wainio; both of whom preceded him in death. He found comfort exploring his own spirituality, found fellowship among similarly seeking kindred souls, and enjoyed mentoring and encouraging his nephews and nieces as they grew up, and proffering advice to his siblings, who now survive him: his brother, Robert Wainio of Broken Arrow, OK, and his sisters, Marilyn Halonen of Tucson AZ, and Cheryl (Mike) Stellenberg of Rochester, MN. He was uncle to seven nieces and nephews and grand-uncle to seven more. In lieu of flowers, donations in Norman's honor can be made to Parkinson's Disease Foundation or the National Alliance on Mental Illness. Arrangements by ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Dodge Chapel.
