Obituary of Kenneth E. Folsom
Prof. Kenneth E. Folsom, 92, died November 8, 2013, having lived in Tucson, Arizona, for the past 25 years. Ken was born in Reno, Nevada, but raised in Long Beach, California. He was dearly loved by his wife of 58 years, Gwen, also from Long Beach, and their son, Kenneth G. Folsom of Phoenix. Ken earned his Bachelor's degree from Princeton, and soon after served in the U.S. Naval Reserve during WWII as a Lieutenant. After the war, he spent a short time as airport manager for KLM Airlines at LaGuardia and then on to advertising, both in New York and Los Angeles. He eventually returned to academia and earned his Masters and Ph.D. degrees at UC Berkeley in Asian Studies, specializing in Chinese history. In his career, Ken traveled extensively to many countries, living in Taiwan twice, and to China multiple times. He taught at the University of Maryland until his retirement in 1988, when he and Gwen moved to Tucson. He will be sorely missed. Arrangements entrusted by ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES.
