Obituary of Eleanor Selby Soliday

Eleanor Selby Soliday journeyed peacefully to be with her Lord on Saturday, August 24, 2013, at La Rosa Skilled Nursing facility, where she resided for almost five years. She was born November 2, 1908, in Rising Sun, IN, to Beulah and Clarence Selby and was the oldest of five siblings. Her husband, Ray C. Soliday, preceded her in death in May of 1961. Eleanor is survived by her two children, Linda Currin and Tim Soliday, both of Tucson, AZ; and four much-loved grandchildren, Jeff (Kathy) Wirth of Billings, MT, Andy (Valerie) Wirth of Tucson, Lindsey Soliday, and John Curtis, also of Tucson. Family was most important and cherished, especially her four great-grandchildren: Melissa and Michael Wirth of Billings, MT, and Erik and Erin Wirth of Tucson; and numerous nieces and nephews; and sister-in-law Virginia Selby of Tucson. A private, fiercely independent, proud and "feisty" lady, Eleanor was a life-long learner, traveled extensively, enjoyed the arts, symphony, theater, opera and all things in nature, especially the Mt. Lemmon family cabin, wildflowers and birds. She was an active member of Casas Adobes Congregational Church of Tucson, a long-time member of P.E.O. Chapter W and various other organizations in the Tucson community. Her family wishes to thank all the wonderful, loving and caring staff of La Rosa Skilled Nursing for their devotion to Eleanor during the last few years of her life. She never minced words and kept them all on their toes one way or another. Thanks also to Casa de la Luz for the end-of-life support and guidance. Eleanor wished to be cremated and her ashes scattered on Mt. Lemmon among the beautiful yellow columbine. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, September 7, 2013, at the Casas Adobes Congregational Church, 6801 North Oracle Road, Tucson, AZ 85704.
